Coronation Street star feared she'd lost role on ITV soap after 'stealing' from set

Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown has revealed she accidentally stole something from the ITV soap.

The actress recently joined the soap as Dee Dee Bailey after her character returned to the Cobbles from her glam life in Los Angeles. However, Channique appeared on ITV's Lorraine today where she admitted she feared she had blown her chances of getting the role at all when she accidentally took a prop phone from the set.

Channique recalled how she was filming her final screen test and managed to leave the set of the ITV soap without handing the phone back. Panicked, she called her agent and feared she ruined her chances.

"In the final screen test, it was a complete accident, but I was given a prop phone and loads of other bags and stuff and so in the scene, I just kept putting the phone in my back pocket," she told presenter Lorraine Kelly.

"At the end of the scene, no one reset me because I was done and I just left and got in my car. I was half way home and just instinct, I realised the phone was in pocket and I'd just stolen from Corrie."

She added: "I called my agent and I was like, I've stolen from Corrie, what am I going to do? I took it back and it was absolutely fine."

Channique loves her role on Corrie and described her character as "a bit of me".

"She's a bit of me. Organised chaos is how I would describe her. She's a great lawyer. She knows what she's doing. I relate to her because I think we are quite similar in that I'm really friendly," she shared to The Mirror previously.

"I'm really chatty while I'm in the zone when I'm working hard. Also, just like even the fact she's a lawyer like I was originally not going to go to drama school and I was going to train in law, and I got a place at a law school and everything and last minute, I pulled out and decided to pursue drama school and they said to me, you know, come back to us when you've worked the acting out of your system.

"Everything about the way she was described, the way she dresses, she changes her hair all the time. It's just so so similar to myself," she explained, "I've been so fortunate to come into a family and I don't think I even realised how amazing it is. I've got a family because they just completely embraced me. They're all rallying around me."

Dee Dee and Alya (Sair Khan) are teaming up as sleuths on the ITV soap.

"Dee Dee is gonna be a lot of fun, a lot of chaos but in a good way. She makes a friend in Alya which has been great," she added.
