Coronation Street star Faye Brookes quits ITV soap after four years

Faye Brookes has announced she is leaving Coronation Street after four years.

The actress, who plays Kate Connor, has had a series of intense story lines - with her fiancée Rana dying in the recent factory collapse.

Faye tweeted the news of her departure this afternoon.

She said: "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after four fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #kana #corrie "

Fans were quick to send messages of support to her following the news.

One said: "Oh wow!! Excited to hear what's next x"

And a third said: "Whoa everyone is leaving! Well i wish you the best but “Kate” is nothing without Rana so it’s best for your story to end (for now)."

Last week Tristan Gemmill quit his role as Robert Preston - also after four years on the soap.

He also broke the news of his departure on Twitter , writing: "Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new.

"There is still a lot of drama & shenanigans to come for Robert but I will be leaving Corrie later in the year."
