Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney looks completely different to Amy Barlow

Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has shared a photo where she looks totally different to her character Amy Barlow.

Elle shared a snap of herself on social media looking unlike her alter ego on the ITV soap.

In the photo Elle, 18, leans against a built-in bar, with the caption reading: "My NYE outfit. love dressing up just to stay in.", reports Mirror Online.

The actress wowed viewers with the different look, with her character Amy not often dressing up on the cobbles.

Elle and her character Amy have both grown up in front of Corrie viewers, with her having been on the soap for 10 years in the role.

Away from the Street, Elle is a little older than her character Amy, who is 16 years old.

Taking to Twitter, fans complimented the glam makeover with one writing: "Wow hardly recognised lol you look beautiful hun x."

Another said: "You look like a true princess Elle you look beautiful."

A third added: "Wow Elle just wow you look incredible, absolutely stunning."

It's thought the younger characters are set for a huge storyline heading into 2021.

In September, ITV soap boss Iain MacLeod has described it as a "serious social responsibility-type" storyline that would end up involving characters such as Roy and Abi.

He said: "We've got a huge story next year, for which we're laying the groundwork for this year, which involves some of the younger characters such as your Asha and your Nina and your Adi and Kelly - some may remember Kelly who is loan shark Rick Neelan's daughter.

"They're going to be stuck in a story that is incredibly hard-hitting and will have massive ramifications for Roy and for Abi. So yeah, essentially it will be one of the biggest things we'll do next year by some margin.

"It will be one of our quite serious social responsibility-type stories. It will start with the teens and then end up hoovering in Abi and Roy and countless other people as well.

"It would be weird to say that I'm excited about it because it's incredibly sad and tragic, in some respects, but it will be a really important story for us next year."

*Coronation Street continues at 7:30pm on ITV on Monday
