Coronation Street star Angela Griffin returning as hairdresser Fiona after 20 years

Coronation Street star Angela Griffin is returning to the soap as hairdresser Fiona Middleton after more than 20 years.

The actress, 42, is said to be making her big comeback after more than two decades in an explosive love child storyline.

Fiona's return will throw her ex Steve McDonald's life into turmoil as she tells him he's the father of her teenage daughter Emma Brooker.

It gets murky when Steve finds out Emma would have been conceived in 1998 while he was dating Fiona.

A source told The Sun : "Angela's return is short and sweet but it has huge implications for Steve.

“She’s back on screens and will find out that the dates that he was with Fiona tally up to when Emma was born.”

The character dated Steve and also had an affair with his dad Jim, which was exposed at an inconvenient moment and ruined her wedding detective Alan McKenna.

Fiona, who had a son with Alan, later got back with Steve but she dumped him after he cheated on her with her best mate Maxine Peacock.

Angela played Fiona from 1992 to 1998.

News of the hairdresser's dramatic return to Weatherfield confirms fan speculation which has been rumbling on since last year.

Many suspected Emma is the secret daughter of Fiona and Steve and they are going to be proved right.

In upcoming scenes, Steve gets scolded by mum Liz for failing to work out that Emma is his.

She tells him: "No wonder you failed maths. Count back nine months."

Last year Angela hinted he would be returnign to the show.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on the daytime TV show about Sean Wilson (aka Martin)'s return, she said: "If he’s going back you never know who else might go back.

"You never know. Never say never!"
