Coronation Street star Andy Whyment reveals when episodes will run out in lockdown

Coronation Street episodes are being rationed during the coronavirus crisis to ensure the soap stays on our telly for as long as possible, but soap star Andy Whyment has now revealed when it could go off-air.

Andy, who plays Corrie favourite Kirk Sutherland, says the soap would need to start filming again in June to stop episodes running out.

Speaking with the United Podcast the actor explained they are hoping to avoid leaving our screens for the first time as the world's longest-running soap.

He said: "I think we've got until the beginning of July in the can.

"So we need to get back by the middle of June with a bit of luck otherwise it's going to go off air."

Andy told the podcast: "A lot of the airlines have announced they're going to start flying again mid-June so hopefully if that's going to happen then hopefully we should be able to get back to work with a bit of luck, so fingers crossed."

Andy, 39, who was a runner-up on last year's series of I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! explained the soap stopped filming at Trafford Wharf after Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the decision to close pubs.

He said: "We worked up until the Friday when Boris shut all the pubs and clubs and stuff and we had a schedule through to the following Thursday.

"Then on the Sunday we had an email saying that they were standing everybody down which was fair enough.

"We were all saying 'we'll carry on as long as we can' but work kind of felt that if all the pubs and clubs are shutting it's probably the right thing to do."

Manchester United fan Andy, from Salford, told the podcast that he's 'missing the football like mad.'

Corrie, which celebrates its landmark 60th anniversary in December, is now showing three half hour episodes a week on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays instead of the usual six episodes screened as double bills.
