Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment 'signs up for I’m A Celebrity 2019'

Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment is set to swap the Cobbles for a stint in the jungle after signing up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

According to The Sun, the 38-year-old actor, who has played Kirk Sutherland on the soap since 2000, will be 11th Coronation Street star to head into the Aussie jungle.

Andrew is the eighth celebrity rumoured to be heading down under, with former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle likely to join him.

Other stars said to be going into the jungle include Jacqueline Jossa, James Haskell, Roman Kemp and Myles Stephenson.

A source said: “Producers are really pleased with the line-up so far, with just a couple of faces to unveil.

"There’s a chance they’ll add a couple more but in previous years they’ve stuck at ten with one or two to follow.

“They were chuffed to get Andrew as viewers have watched him on Coronation Street for the best part of two decades, yet know nothing about him away from Kirk.”

Andrew has previous, although indirect, connections to I’m A Celeb after his on-screen ex Jennie McAlpine took part in the reality show in 2017, coming fourth.

Other Coronation Street stars to have previously taken part include Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Nigel Havers (Lewis Archer), Helen Flanagan (Rosie Webster), Craig Charles (Lloyd Mullaney) and Sair Khan (Alya Nazir) who starred last year.

Series 19 of the hit show is due to get underway later this year, although no exact start date has been announced yet.

The popular ITV show usually starts at the end of November and runs for three weeks, with the King or Queen of the Jungle likely to be crowned sometime in December.

I’m A Celeb airs from Sunday to Friday and is presented by Ant and Dec.
