Coronation Street spoilers: Giant sinkhole to terrorise the cobbles

Coronation Street 's residents will be rocked by more disaster later this year as a giant sinkhole opens up causing terror in the town.

As the characters reel from Gary Windass' killings being rumbled, Elaine Jones being threatened by Geoff Metcalfe and disappearing, and little Oliver Battersby's diagnosis, a sinkhole is probably the last thing they need.

But that's what they are in for as a huge hole opens up in none other than the Platt's garden, threatening to expand and swallow everything in its wake.

David Platt is already battling to save his marriage with Shona, who cannot remember anything about their relationship due to her brain injury.

He now has even more to worry about as fixing a sinkhole is no easy feat.

A rep for the show confirmed to The Sun: "It's going to cause huge issues for the already hard-up residents on the cobbles - no-one wants a sinkhole in their garden, especially with the damage they can do."

Meanwhile, Johnny Connor, Nick Tylsley and Billy Mayhew will all be haunted by "ghosts from their pasts" as Autumn begins, causing them "more than a little trouble".

More drama is also to come in the Yasmeen Nazir trial storyline, as her granddaughter Alya goes head to head with evil Geoff.

Next week, the brave teen physically blocks Geoff from barging into the restaurant with a broom, but she is soon to become another of his victims of mental manipulation

Geoff admits to Tim that he did confront Elaine, but only to tell her to stay away from his family and peddle her lies elsewhere.

Sally tries to beg Tim to see Geoff for who he is, but he won't have it and ends up throwing Elaine's phone number in the bin.

But after her showdown with Geoff, Elaine goes missing, leaving the characters with even more questions.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.

At the end of the week, Geoff tries to persuade his family that Elaine is not Tim's mum and that it is all a ploy by Alya to drive a wedge between them in Yasmeen's favour.
