Coronation Street spoiler: Bethany Platt will make a risky confession in tonight's episode

Bethany Platt is going to make a shock confession in tonight's Coronation Street .

She will confess that she is falling in love with Daniel Osbourne - who's wife Sinead is dying of terminal cancer.

His support with her writing recently ignited a spark between them, and Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, writes a short story and shows it to James.

When James reads it, he realises she is writing about Daniel.

Bethany tells him that he is right, but swears him to secrecy.

Sinead's friends and family host a Christmas party for her, knowing her time is running out.

But she and Daniel end up having an argument, and he storms out and seeks solace in Bethany.

They then share a kiss - and Daniel immediately regrets it.

Ken Barlow catches them in the act and furiously orders Daniel to go back and care for his wife.

Iain MacLeod, the boss of the show, called the storyline "emotionally complex".

He added: "Bethany certainly thinks she’s in love with Daniel, but as Audrey says to her in an episode, to what degree does she love Daniel and to what degree does she love this romantic Byronic figure who’s crying on a windswept moor because he’s lost his wife?

"Is she in love with that fantasy Daniel, or the real man? Does she even know the real man?

"For Daniel’s part, the story going forward is about loneliness, isolation and it’s about the Barlow family not knowing to what degree they should wade in, and try to take over and look after baby Bertie for him, and to what degree should they back off."

*Coronation Street airs an hour long episode tonight at 7:30pm on ITV
