Coronation Street's Yasmeen Nazir returns and drops heartbreaking confession

Coronation Street airs the return of Yasmeen Nazir next week, as actress Shelley King reprises her role on the ITV soap.

Yasmeen has been in prison since April, after she attacked her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe and almost killed him.

Since the end of July, Yasmeen hasn't been on screen as the character suffered a heart attack while in prison and was left hospitalised.

Yasmeen has undergone a major operation since then and has been recovering in hospital.

She's now back in prison, and next week she appears on screen again for the first time in months.

But Yasmeen, who is still dealing with her ordeal at the hands of Geoff, makes a devastating admission to granddaughter Alya Nazir.

Yasmeen is awaiting trial, after being accused of attempted murder against her husband.

Since her absence, Geoff has finally been exposed with everyone including son Tim Metcalfe learning what he is really like.

His abuse towards Yasmeen is out in the open too, after he isolated, controlled and manipulated her for months before she finally snapped.

But despite knowing the truth is out, Yasmeen can't help but fear a return to the Cobbles.

With his first wife Elaine still missing after their sinister showdown recently, Yasmeen confesses to Alya she feels safer in prison.

Alya visits her with the good news that she has been granted an appeal, but she's not prepared for what her Gran says.

Yasmeen is fearful of going to court, and terrified of facing the trial.

Not only that, but she never wants to leave the prison because it's the only place Geoff can't get to her.

Can Alya help her grandmother?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
