Coronation Street's Yasmeen actress Shelley King shares real-life bond with Geoff actor

Coronation Street actress Shelley King has opened up about the "trust" between her and co-star Ian Bartholomew.

The cast members are at the centre of a harrowing domestic abuse storyline, highlighting coercive control.

Yasmeen Nazir, Shelley's character, was arrested in April after a brutal attack saw her stab husband Geoff Metcalfe in the neck with a broken glass bottle, while it was in self-defence.

She was the victim of manipulation and control, with Geoff isolating his wife from her loved ones and the outdoors.

His abuse led to the deadly attack, and Yasmeen has been in prison ever since - while at a recent court hearing she pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

Speaking on Lorraine ahead of dramatic scenes for the pair, Shelley talked of the challenges of the harrowing storyline.

But she also revealed the bond she shares with Geoff actor Ian, as they put their all into the huge storyline.

"We've both got the humour of a 14-year-old boy. It's the only way sometimes to get through these things, we have a great time.

"We spent two years, and the element of trust necessary is enormous and you have to like [each other]. We're lucky we get on like a house on fire.

"I miss him, we've been on the phone to each other and hopefully him and his whole family... I can’t wait to go back cos I haven't been back yet."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
