Coronation Street's Tim 'chops thumb off' - but distressing scene ruined by coronavirus

Tim Metcalfe 'chopped his own thumb off' in tonight's Coronation Street - but the distressing scene was inadvertently ruined by the coronavirus outbreak.

Corrie viewers watched in horror as Tim appeared to amputate his own thumb while doing the dishes.

Traumatised Tim yelled out in agony, blaming dad Geoff's knife in the sink, as mortified wife Sally ran over to help.

Terrified Sally yelled at Tim to put pressure on the wound as he cried: "See if you’ve got any ice, they might be able to stitch it back on."

Geoff called an ambulance and revealed his son had "amputated his own thumb" while Yasmeen searched for it in the sink.

Tim said: "I won't be able to live without a thumb. I won't be able to hold anything."

Just as the desperate situation was getting out of control, Tim lifted up his thumb from under the tea towel and confessed: "Oh there it is."

Giggling Tim and Geoff revealed they had played an over the top April Fool's Prank on their wives.

Many Corrie fans were convinced Tim was seriously injured because April Fool's Day was on Wednesday.

Many viewers pointed out the blunder on social media, but the gaffe was due to the new schedule for the ITV soap.

With production halted due to the coronavirus outbreak, Corrie is only airing three episodes a week instead of the usual six.

Tonight's episode was supposed to air on Wednesday on April Fool's Day, which has put the storylines out of synch.

Corrie had actually gone large for this year's April Fool's Day with many characters falling foul to pranks.

Chesney noticed a lot of red spots on Bernie's face and asked if she had been drawing on herself.

When Bernice claimed it could be chicken pox, Chesney replied: "I’m not stupid i know what day it is."

He then nearly threw his tea up when he realised Bernie had done another prank and put salt in the sugar bag.

In another hilarious moment, David told daughter Lily to hide under the table to trick Gail into thinking she was missing.

Worried Gail frantically starting searching and was about to call the police before Lily jumped out and said: "April Fool's!"

Cheeky Lily revealed it was all David's idea, leaving Gail asking if they were trying to put her in an early grave.

Meanwhile, Emma went to point out that Tracy had shaving foam on top of her head but Steve stopped her.

Tracy eventually realised at work and came home to get her own back on Steve with the shaving foam - but it was after midday.
