Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson’s drunken brawl police probe 'dropped'

The police investigation into Simon Gregson 's drunken Aintree fight has been dropped, it has been claimed.

Friends say he wants to move on from the brawl, sparked after a boozy day at the horse racing.

The Coronation Street star was quizzed in the back of a police van after a bust-up in a Toby Carvery pub opposite the Grand National racecourse earlier this month.

Long-serving soap star Simon, aka Steve McDonald, enjoyed hospitality with other stars and had been photographed drinking Guinness in one of the famous course’s luxury suites earlier in the day.

But things reportedly turned ugly after the racing - and police confirmed they were investigating a reported “altercation” between two men at The Rocking Horse pub yards from the venue.

Now it has been claimed cops won't be taking things further - and Simon has told Coronation Street execs he will clean up his act.

A friend told The Sun: “Simon has been told there will be no further action taken by the cops following the ruckus in the Toby Carvery.

“It is naturally a welcome relief for Simon and those around him. Simon knows his antics haven’t looked, or been, great and he made it clear to Corrie it won’t happen again.”

Mirror Online has approach Merseyside Police for comment.

The spat came days after it emerged the 47-year-old was reportedly asked to leave a club at co-star Alexandra Mardell’s leaving do.

It was claimed he took his shirt off and danced on furniture, hurling abuse at staff.

Speaking about the race day altercation, a source told the Mirror: “There was a bust-up and bouncers kicked him out – they pinned him to the ground before the police arrived.

"He was taken to the police van and spoken to for some time. It was all very messy.”

Simon has played loveable taxi boss Steve for three decades and won a string of awards.

Hours earlier the much-loved telly star happily posed for pictures with Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall, 40, and her ex-England rugby captain husband Mike, 43, during his day at the races.

A police spokesman said at the time: “We can confirm Merseyside Police were in attendance at the Rocking Horse pub on Grand National Avenue, Aintree.

“At around 9.20pm we received a report two men were involved in an altercation inside the pub. No injuries were reported and the victim declined to make a formal complaint to police. Inquiries are ongoing.”
