Coronation Street's Simon Gregson once pooed on a helter skelter in chaotic scenes

Actor Simon Gregson has described how he once pooed himself on a helter skelter as a child.

The Coronation Street star, 45, was taking part in an online question-and-answer session when he recalled the embarassing childhood moment.

His family were on a day out together when one episode on a helter skelter did not end well.

"My sister managed to swerve it but some of the kids weren't as lucky," confessed Simon, according to the Daily Star.

"I was only about four and I remember my mum and dad packing up a picnic – which took them about two hours to put out – in about 30 seconds and we ran."

He went on to add: "Many kids in the park covered in poo!"

Well, that's all rather grim!

Thankfully, in a much sweeter moment of the Q and A, Simon revealed his love for some of his fellow Corrie cast members.

Being asked about his favourite characters from the ITV soap, Simon revealed: " Sue Nicholls (Audrey) plays such a lovely character and is such a brilliant person. One of the best.

"Also Helen Worth playing Gail and, of course, Bill Roache (Ken) – 60 years in the same part and he’s the loveliest man in the world."

Steve McDonald has been in a hard-hitting storyline with Leanne Battersby (ITV)

Simon added that he tended to favour the older characters on the soap.

The actor himself is currently in the middle of a hard-hitting storyline as Steve McDonald and Leanne Battersby ( Jane Danson ) deal with their young son Ollie as he faces a terminal illness, mitochondrial disease.

The soap will tackle the impact on both parents as well as their partners, Tracy McDonald ( Kate Ford ) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

Steve will need to get through this time with his mother Liz McDonald ( Beverely Callard ) off-screen, however, as Liz has now departed the soap in unseen scenes.

Yet, Beverly told The Mirror : "I don’t think I’ll be back until next year but I will be back – that’s for sure.

"As soon as I’m well enough I will film Liz’s exit. I just hope it’s a belter."

Coronation Street is on ITV tonight at 7.30pm.
