Simon Barlow is left devastated over his adoptive mum Leanne's cruel confession on Coronation Street next week.
Leanne, played by Jane Danson, continues to struggle after a consultant tells her and Steve that Oliver has an incurable form of mitochondrial disease.
The pair do their best to process the heartbreaking news and, unable to believe it, Leanne demands a second opinion.
At home, the rest of the family are left reeling over the news.
Later on in the week, a distraught Leanne breaks down as she tells Steve that Oliver is all that she has ever wanted and that when he dies she will have nothing.
Simon, who was adopted by Leanne when she was married to Peter, overhears and is left heartbroken.
He heads to school for his exam and makes a big decision.
At the end of the week, Simon tells Peter what he overheard Leanne saying.
Leanne tries to apologise but Simon is insistent on living with his dad.
Nick ends up squaring up to Peter and accuses him of taking Simon off Leanne, which she deeply regrets later.
Leanne is drained and later agrees to letting Oliver stay with Steve at No. 1.
Nick goes on to apologise to Peter and ends up being comforted over the difficult situation.
Will the fractured family be able to cope with Oliver's diagnosis?
