Roy Cropper will unleash his fury next week on Coronation Street following the attack on his niece Nina Lucas.
Nina, played by Mollie Gallagher, and her boyfriend Seb were brutally beaten up and left for dead by Corey and his gang - who also included Kelly Neelan.
In his final conscious moments, Seb was able to ring the emergency services so that both of them were rushed to hospital, but tragically he died.
Next week, Roy sees Nina packing her bags at the hospital and she tells him that she needs to be discharged so that she can visit the scene of the crime to try and jog her memory.
Roy is heartbroken to see the state that Nina is in as he attempts to persuade her to stay in hospital.
Yet later, Roy is furious when he overhears Evelyn making a snide comment about about Kirk's IQ.
As he unleashes his anger, he throws her out after comparing her remarks to the prejudice that Nina suffered.
The pair soon reconcile as Roy admits that he may have overreacted and attempts to apologise.
But Evelyn waves him off and tells him that there is "no need", remarking: "I have been told that I am too insensitive, on several occasions".
"I found malice where none was intended," Roy insists. "As if the genuine article wasn't in plentiful supply just beyond that door."
In touching scenes, Evelyn and Roy open up to one another as the cafe owner laments the intolerance, transphobia and hatred in the world.
"I saw it close up with Hayley, often enough," he says. "Sometimes under the cloak of badinage, other times more nakedly, but always on the same continuum. And I'd think, 'Why do you care so much when our choices have no impact on you?'"
