Coronation Street's Roy Cropper and Abi Franklin to come together in major new storyline

An major new Coronation Street storyline is set to see and unlikely pairing.

Roy Cropper and Abi Franklin, played by David Neilson and Sally Carmen, will come together in 2021 in a "devastating" plot on the ITV soap.

The pair will find themselves "thrown together" in a "social responsibility" storyline that will also affect some of the teens living on the street.

Corrie boss Iain Macleod told The Sun : "There's a really big social realism story that’s going to draw in Roy Cropper and Abi Franklin.

"They’ll find themselves thrown together off the back of their heroics in the community story.

"It’s going to be heart-breaking and serious and hopefully start a lot of important conversations at home."

The executive producer had earlier said: "A huge story for next year involves Asha, Nina, Aadi, Kelly – they will be mixed up in a hard hitting story and massive ramifications for Roy and Abi.

The storyline is said to be 'devastating' (ITV)

"It'll be one of our biggest, serious social responsibility stories next year by a margin.

"It’s incredibly sad and tragic but a really important story."

For now though, it is all about the big 60th anniversary week of explosive episode ahead of another heartbreaking Christmas.

This week viewers have already seen Yasmeen Metcalfe found not guilty of the attempted murder of her evil husband Geoff.

But the sigh of relief is short lived as the nightmare continues and Alya Nazir is caught in the crossfire.

As well as that, the residents of Weatherfield are holding a protest to stop Ray Crosby knocking down the street, not knowing Debbie Webster is also in on it.
