Things are reportedly set to take a dark turn for Paul Foreman in the coming weeks on Coronation Street.
Gemma Winter's twin brother will struggle to cope in upcoming scenes, with his loved ones unable to get through to him.
It is not yet clear what leads to Paul's downward spiral, but he will apparently hit the bottle leading to testing times for him and partner Billy Mayhew.
The scenes will air amid Billy's search for missing ex Todd Grimshaw, who will soon make a return to the ITV soap.
Speaking to The Sun online, a source revealed Paul's struggles ahead and how it will impact his relationship.
They said: "Paul hits the bottle in a bad way and no-one can get through to him.
"He spends days surrounded by empty cans and his own thoughts.
"It’s going to be a real test of his relationship with Billy to see if they get through it."
They added: "And Todd’s return won’t help matters."
Paul recently offered Billy his support, over the worrying news about Todd.
Fearing for his safety, he and pal Sean reported him missing to the police - ahead of a horrifying discovery in the next episode.
They were told by police officer Craig Tinker that Todd was no longer wanted by police for attacking an officer, despite him being gone for three years.
Billy was concerned something terrible had happened, given the fact he was free to return home but had not done so.
In upcoming scenes he and Sean will fear the worst while continuing their search, when they learn the body of a man has been found in a river near to where he was last seen.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
