Coronation Street's Lydia actress Rebecca Ryan has a famous brother who's already on soap

Coronation Street is welcoming former Waterloo Road and Shameless actress Rebecca Ryan to the cobbles very soon.

But the Casualty actress, who is set to play Lydia, already has a close connection to the street.

She is related to another cast member on the ITV soap, whose character recently made a return.

Both siblings could be set to appear on the show at the same time, while actress Rebecca is also set to be reunited with some of her former co-stars.

Rebecca is the sister of actor Jack James Ryan, who plays Jacob Hay on the show.

Jacob was caught up in the dramatic drug storyline earlier this year, involving Simon Barlow and villain Harvey Gaskell.

While he last appeared in March in these scenes, he returned again to the show this month in new scenes with Kelly Neelan.

It's not confirmed whether Jack will remain a part of the show, while Lydia's presence is also yet to be fully detailed.

She will feature in scenes with Sarah Platt and her Underworld client Gavin, with them set to be on screen next week according to spoilers.

Confirming his relation to Rebecca, Jack shared a sweet message to her on his Instagram as well as an image of them both on the famous street.

He wrote: "Still can’t believe this is happening but I’m beyond proud to finally announce my ridiculously talented sister @rebeccaryan___ is joining the cast of @coronationstreet.

"When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I’d say 'an actor on TV like my big sister'. You’ve been my biggest inspiration and I’ll never be able to articulate just how proud I am to be your little bro.

"They say never work with family but on this occasion I’d like to strongly disagree. Can’t wait for Lydia to hit our screens in December so make sure to keep an eye out to see what she gets up to! Love you Bex."

Rebecca also shared the news, writing on her own Instagram page: "THE NEWS IS OUT!! So excited to be joining the cast of Corrie.

"What a dream come true not only do I get to be a part of this amazing programme but I get to do it all with my best mate and little bro!! @jackjamesryan . Xx"

Rebecca will be reuniting with her former Shameless co-stars Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin, and Qasim Akhtar, who recently returned as Zeedan Nazir.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
