Simon Barlow will be left horrified this evening after discovering mum Leanne Battersby unconscious on the sofa next to a bottle of sleeping pills on Coronation Street tonight.
The teen, played by Alex Bain, has been distracted from his grief over brother Oliver's death by new friend and potential love interest Kelly this week.
Viewers watched as Simon helped Kelly after she broke into Gary's shop in an attempt to get justice for her missing dad.
But Simon realises he needs to keep an eye on his struggling mum when he returns home to get changed for his date with Kelly.
Simon is horrified when he sees his mum passed out on the sofa next to a bottle of pills and frantically phones for an ambulance.
Yet Leanne is embarrassed and admits she took one too many pills and didn't have any intention of harming herself.
Simon is left even more concerned when he finds out that Leanne never went to France and that she's been alone in the flat for weeks.
Leanne ends up breaking down under the weight of her grief, meanwhile Kelly is upset when Simon doesn't turn up for their date.
But Simon is entirely focused on Leanne, and later calls Kelly to apologise to her about failing to show.
He then tells Leanne that it's time that he looked after her for a change.
Later, Nick asks about the ambulance and Simon covers for Leanne while she continues to stay hidden away.
