Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn IS leaving despite denying she'd quit soap

Coronation Street 's Katie McGlynn IS leaving the soap, despite denying she was quitting.

It was reported last month that Katie, who plays newlywed Sinead Osbourne in the ITV soap, was the latest in a string of stars to quit.

She also made an unfortunately-timed comment about being on the show "too long" during an appearance on Celebrity Juice alongside her on-screen husband Daniel Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard.

Katie, who has played Sinead for around seven years, later took to Twitter to clarify her statement.

She said: "Unlucky timing with my sarcastic humour on CelebJuice when these silly rumours are going around. I have not ‘quit’ Corrie, I am contracted well into this year & am fully committed to our long running storyline, we do not know the outcome as of yet, which is how we like it!"

But now, Lisa George, who plays Katie's on-screen aunt Beth Tinker, has confirmed her departure.

When asked on the British Soap Awards red carpet if she was sad about Katie leaving, she told The Sun : "I'm devastated!"

Rob also spoke about it, saying his character won't be able to cope without Sinead.

He told the publication: "I don't think he would do well at all.

"He's one of those people who thinks there's only one person out there for everyone and if you can find them then lose them then that's it."

Rob called his character "dramatic" and suggested he needs to "give his head a wobble".
