Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn delighted as nurses praise cancer plot for saving lives

Soap fans have been left in tears after watching Coronation Street’s Sinead Tinker in her distressing battle with terminal cancer.

Actress Katie McGlynn is set to leave the cobbles for good after seven years in the role, but her traumatic exit storyline has been having a huge impact.

She has been contacted by nurses who tell her that the number of women going for smear tests has soared since the tragic plot unfolded.

Sinead has been on a heartbreaking journey since being diagnosed with cervical cancer during pregnancy.

Katie, 25, posted one message she had received on Twitter : “Hi, I’m a nurse in general practice in East Manchester.

"I just wanted to let you know the positive impact your storyline has on cervical cytology uptake.

"I’ve seen a huge increase in uptake in the last few weeks.

“Thank you so much for your positive impact through drama. Thanks Corrie. Thanks Katie for your superb acting of this harrowing cancer experience. You make a difference. x”

Katie says: “It’s messages like this that make it all worthwhile. Feel privileged to be a part of this storyline.”
