Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd reveals that he ruined chance at Hollywood success

Jack P Shepherd is famed for playing menacing David Platt on Coronation Street - a role he bagged at the age of 12.

And now the soap sensation, 33, has revealed that he missed out on a chance of Hollywood success as a youngster due to flopping during an audition for the mega movie hit of Billy Elliot - which was released in 2000, the same year he made his first appearance on the cobbles.

The famous part was won by Jamie Bell - who picked up a BAFTA for the movie - and he has gone on to have a hugely successful career in Tinseltown.

Proving that Jack still thinks about how he "f***ed up" the casting call, he shared that he was "gutted" when the film hit cinemas and the attention it got at the Academy Awards during a recent episode of his Sofa Cinema Club podcast, that he hosts with fellow Corrie stars Colson Smith and Ben Price.

Reflecting on how he missed out on storming America, he said: "When this film came out I was like 11 to 12-years-old and I'd obviously been for an audition.

"I was only gutted in the sense that I did not get it because of the success of the film went on to do - Academy Award nominations. And I used to watch the Academy Awards religiously.

"And getting up in the middle of the night to watch them. So, when you sort of see a film that you auditioned for, it could have been you and you could have been there, it's kind of like?''

Ben said: "That's hard.'' Jack continued: "Yeah, I suppose, yeah. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'd have done anywhere near as good a performance as Jamie Bell did.'' Colson said: "But you'd have liked the chance?''

Jack replied: "Well, I did have the chance and I f***ed it up!''

Last year, Jack revealed that his mental health had suffered as a result of his thinning hair.

The actor underwent a hair transplant in 2019 after saying his confidence was so bad he had considered leaving Corrie and 'giving up acting' altogether.

Revealing the before and after shots on Instagram, Jack told fans: "I decided to get it done as it was affecting my mental health. To the point where I considered giving up acting and not being the public eye."

Jack, who has marked 21 years on the cobbles, is currently dating scriptwriter Hanni Treweek.

The pair got together in 2017 after Jack split from fiancée Lauren Shippey after 15 years together.

Jack shares son Reuben and daughter Nyla with Lauren. He is also dad to son Greyson from a previous relationship.
