Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd could have landed iconic Hollywood role

Coronation Street Jack P Shepherd could have had a very different career if he landed iconic role.

The actor, who plays David Platt in the ITV soap, could have swapped Weatherfield for Hollywood as a youngster, he has revealed.

Jack, 33, missed out on a part as Billy Elliot after he ‘f***ed up' his audition, with the role eventually going to Jamie Bell.

Jamie shot to fame in the role of a working-class boy who discovers his passion for ballet and became the youngest person to win the BAFTA for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Speaking about the moment he auditioned for the role, Jack said on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast with fellow Corrie stars Colson Smith and Ben Price: "When this film came out I was like 11/12-years-old and I'd obviously been for an audition.

“I was only gutted in the sense that I didn’t get it because of the success of the film went on to do – Academy Award nominations.

“And I used to watch the Academy Awards religiously. And getting up in the middle of the night to watch them.

“So, when you sort of see a film that you auditioned for, it could have been you and could have been have there, it’s kind of like…”

A sympathetic Ben, who portray's Corrie's Nick Tilsley, said: "That's hard."

“Yeah, I suppose, yeah. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I’d have done anywhere near as [good] a performance as Jamie Bell did," Jack added.

When Colson suggested “But you’d have liked the chance?" Jack replied: "Well, I did have the chance and I f**ked it up!".

Instead, Jack has spent 21-years portraying the often cheeky barber David in Corrie after he joined the soap back in 2000 at just 11-years-old.
