1982: Bill Tarmey joined Coronation Street as Jack Duckworth in 1979 and first appeared at Gail and Brian Tilsley's wedding. He moved into the Street with wife Vera (Liz Dawn) in 1983, much to the dismay of their neighbours

1989: Jack chats up barmaid Tina Fowler (Michelle Holmes). When Vera discovers that he has taken her out for an expensive meal, she berates her in front of the whole pub, and throws a glass of beer at her. However, Vera accidentally throws the beer over landlord Alec Gilrory instead and is banned from the pub. She later gets her revenge on Jack by cutting up his trousers so he can’t leave the house

1997: Jack and Vera bought the Rovers in 1995 following an inheritance after the death of his brother Cliff and sister-in-law Elsie in a car crash. As Jack had a criminal record, Vera was made the licensee. They were forced to sell a share to Gilroy in 1997 when they discovered they owed £17,000 in taxes
