Coronation Street's hidden tribute to soap legend Hilda Ogden

Coronation Street has paid a sweet tribute to iconic character Hilda Ogden.

The soap has remembered Hilda, played by the late Jean Alexander who died in 2016 aged 90, with three flying birds in a nod to Hilda's famous flying ducks on her mural at 13 Coronation Street.

Viewers may not have noticed that three pictures of a bird in flight, in a similar position to cleaner Hilda's ceramic ducks, take pride of place in the lounge of the new Bailey family.

The family moved into 3 Coronation Street, the former home of Emily Bishop and Norris Cole, in June and have been busy putting their own stamp on the house.

Dad Edison, known as Ed, is played by former Holby City actor Trevor Michael Georges, mum Aggie is played by former Doctors actress Lorna Laidlaw and their two sons Michael and James are played by former CBeebies presenter Ryan Russell and West End performer Nathan Graham.

The ducks used to be on Elsie Tanner's wall and the middle duck seemed to be permanently pointing downwards away from its two companions.

In a moving speech about her 'muriel' Hilda, who left Weatherfield in 1987 to move to Derbyshire, said: "I've come in here more times than I care to remember, cold, wet, bone-tired, not a penny in me purse.

"And seeing them ducks and that muriel...well they've kept me hand away from gas tap, and that's a fact."

Hilda's lodger Kevin Webster bought number 13 from Hilda with his wife Sally and the couple papered over the mural.

The next owners were Ashley and Claire Peacock followed by Lloyd Mullaney then Steve McDonald who sold it to Kevin in 2012.

Kevin still owns the house today and lives there with his son Jack.
