Coronation Street's Helen Worth says she was confronted by on-screen lover's real wife

Coronation Street star Helen Worth has shared an amusing anecdote involving an incident between her and an on-screen lover's real-life partner.

The Gail Platt actress was chatting to former co-star Nigel Havers on This Morning on Monday when she told the hilarious story involving his wife.

Nigel and Helen reunited on-screen for a pre-recorded segment on the ITV mid-morning show and enjoyed a catch up with one another where they discussed their love lives away from the cobbles.

69-year-old Nigel played scheming Lewis Archer in the ITV soap until his exit in 2019, when the con-artist died from a heart attack.

Prior to being killed off, one of his most shocking Coronation Street storylines saw Nigel embark on a secret affair with Gail, as he planned to scam her out of thousands of pounds - after having already had a relationship with the Weatherfield resident's mother Audrey Roberts.

During their broadcasted lunch on This Morning, Helen told her former co-star of the time she bumped into his real life wife while shopping in a local butchers - shortly after their on-screen kiss had aired.

The Corrie actress was approached by Nigel Haver's wife after their on-screen kiss (ITV)

"I was in Walters Butchers and from behind me I felt a hand on my shoulder," the Corrie veteran began her tale.

"A lady's voice said, 'The last time I saw you, you were kissing my husband.'

"And there was a deep breath from the whole of the butchers which was full, as they waited for fisticuffs" Helen laughed.

"I turned round and there was your lovely lady wife and she said, 'You don't know me but I'm Mrs Havers.'"

Elsewhere in the segment, Helen also opened up about finding love with her second husband Trevor Dawson.

The actress, who has appeared on Corrie for four decades, married the London music teacher in April 2013.

The 70-year-old told Nigel about the moment they first met and how lucky she feels to have have him in her life.

"I met Trevor about 10 years ago and I just thank my lucky stars really," Helen told Nigel.

"He's just gorgeous," she added.

When Nigel asked her if it "was love at first sight," Helen quickly replied: "Yes, yes!"

The Coronation Street matriarch was once married to Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends narrator Michael Angelis.

Helen and the late star married in 1991 but their relationship was rocked when the Liverpool-born actor admitted to having an affair.

Despite forgiving Michael, Helen later divorced him in 2001 when it was revealed that the star had been involved in another affair with model Jennifer Khalastchi.

"Nothing can ever prepare you for the day your husband sits you down and tells you he is having an affair," Helen told The Mirror in 2001.

"My marriage was everything to me. It was the foundation on which everything else was built. I had been with Michael for nearly half of my life. I never imagined that we wouldn’t grow old together."

Jennifer and Michael married in 2001, and remained together until his death last year.
