Coronation Street's 'genius' early Christmas episode got viewers talking

Christmas literally came early for Coronation Street fans when they were treated to some dramatic early festive scenes.

The family of Sinead Osbourne brought fake snow, decorations and a turkey dinner to the dying young mum - and the moving moments of her last Christmas were overlapped with violent scenes of a prison riot.

The decision to set the violence at the prison where David Platt is being held to carols and jolly Christmas music was hailed 'genius' by fans.

"Just walked in to see a massive prison riot set to a  lovely festive Christmas carol and my head went WTF?!" tweeted one fan.

"Can't take that riot seriously with the jolly Christmas music playing," laughed another viewer.

"Never thought I’d be watching a prison riot with Christmas tunes playing in the background - this is amazing," commented another Corrie watcher.

And another wrote: "Overlapping the angelic music with the Christmas dinner and prison riots is GENIUS."

"That contrast between the jail riot and the christmas for Sinead whilst ‘Silent Night’ played was BRILLIANT," said another.

But all wasn't calm for long at the Osbourne flat when Sinead accused concerned husband Daniel of 'bullying' her and threw him out.

"Not Christmas without a family ding dong," praised one fan.

"God this isn’t even the Christmas episode of Corrie and it’s THIS good. 25th december they’re going to have to really up their game," said another.
