Coronation Street's Fiz Stape gets new love interest and you'll recognise him

Coronation Street's Fiz Stape has had a rough few months but she's set to have a new romance and viewers might recognise him from Hollywood.

Fiz was left heartbroken earlier this year when her long term partner Tyrone Dobbs left her for the much younger Alina Pop.

Struggling to accept Tyrone's decision Fiz's anger was further stoked when she discovered that Alina was pregnant with Tyrone's baby - reports the Manchester Evening News.

This week Fiz signed up to a dating site and arranged to meet a guy called Chis in the bistro.

But when she turned up Fiz was shocked to find a woman waiting for her who happened to be a reporter looking to do a story on people whose partners go off with a 'younger model'.

Fiz goes ahead with the interview causing yet more drama, but next week sees her actually go on a proper date with a man called Phil.

The pair hit it off in Speed Daal and when Tyrone calls in for a takeaway, he is put out to see Fiz enjoying a date with Phil.

But eagle-eyed viewers may recognise Phil as Corrie bosses have cast Hollywood star Jamie Kenna for the role.

The 47-year-old actor will probably be best recognised for his role in football hooligan film Green Street where he played Big Marc.

He has also appeared in Stormbreaker and The Bank Job as well as rival soap EastEnders.

Jamie played Vince Franks in the BBC soap, the father of school bully Jez Franks who came up against Phil for his son's actions.

Sharing the news on Instagram, the actor said: "ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! I can finally….FINALLY tell you all my amazing news! As of 16th July I will be appearing regularly as Phil Whittaker in the national institution that is @coronationstreet.

"I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the cast. Especially the brilliant @jenniemcalpine & @alanhalsall."

By the end of next week, viewers will see Tyrone and Phil come fact to face in the Bistro as both couples head out for diner.

But it all ends in disaster when, suffering from a headache, Alina heads home leaving Tyrone to pay the bill.

Tyrone can’t resist making snide remarks at Fiz and Phill’s expense, but his bravado turns to embarrassment when his card is declined.

In a bid to make peace, Phill pays Tyrone’s bill. Tyrone’s humiliated and takes a drunken swing at Phill causing him to trip.
