Coronation Street's evil Geoff Metcalfe 'to target son Tim' in sick twist

Abuser Geoff Metcalfe proved last week how far he is willing to go to ensure that everyone believe him rather than wife Yasmeen after lying to the police on Coronation Street.

The radio DJ, played by Ian Bartholomew, told the police that Yasmeen had attacked him in the past - neglecting to tell them that he had actually been abusing her.

But he looks set to take it one step further by manipulating his own son Tim.

Speaking to the Radio Times, actor Ian suggested that Geoff's relationship with Tim could become particularly dark.

He said: "Geoff sees that Alya poses a threat but feels he’s able to handle it.

"The person he needs to keep onside is his son Tim – if he convinces him what he’s saying is right he can spread the word on Geoff’s behalf throughout the community.

"What Alya is saying will then sound like sour grapes and anxiety for her gran."

This comes after the ITV soap's producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that Geoff won't be redeemed and will get his comeuppance - though it likely won't happen until the end of the year.

He told Mirror TV and other news outlets last week: "The timelines have been shunted around as a result of the lockdown and things like that. But I think it's fair to imagine it will certainly be this year, we think.

"What form of comeuppance that takes is still in discussion. What we wanted to make sure in telling the story was that it was a kind of redemptive ending ultimately for Yasmeen, obviously.

"She's right in the thick of it at the moment and the toughest it's going to get for her is around now. But the ending is a little off - it's going to be towards the end of the uyear. And the key thing we're going to be considering is how we can impart the right message at the end of this story.

"As I've said, there have been some very sobering and moving correspondence to me and to Ian and Shelley and for the sake of those people, we've got to make sure we tell the right ending that has some positivity and some optimism.

"So that's uppermost in our thinking at the moment, it's a little way off at the moment."
