Evelyn actress Maureen Lipman said she will be returning to Coronation Street after her "little holiday" in a theatre production.
Maureen, 76, has had an on-off relationship with the show for years, first appearing almost two decades ago as a side character. She returned to pick up her mainstay role as Evelyn Plummer in 2018 but had to take time off following the death of her husband, Guido Castro, in 2021.
Story producers have written the actress out of the show again which has allowed her to pick up a new role on stage. Maureen will be taking on the lead role of Rose in the eponymous theatre production later this month until October.

The actress appeared on Good Morning Britain where she was quizzed on whether or not she would be returning to the cobbles given her sudden exit and new role. Clarifying her position on the show, she said: "This has just come at a time where I’ve got a little holiday from Corrie – I’m going back because I like Corrie, I like the people.
"It's amazing being up north again because you realise how much you’re kind of being posh when you’re in London, even though I’ve been here 54 years."
Maureen praised the show and its cast for the phenomenal work they put into it, stating she "won't hear a bad word about it." She added: "It’s full of quite exceptional actors working with very little rehearsal, very little direction."
