Coronation Street's Emma and Faye in cover-up plot with 'life-changing consequences'

Emma Brooker and Faye Windass' year takes a life-changing turn before it has even begun.

The pair will find themselves at the centre of a cover-up plot when their New Year's celebrations quickly become a nightmare.

Viewers of the ITV soap have already seen Emma agree to help Faye with her driving lessons after a few unsuccessful attempts at getting behind the wheel with Craig.

And first look pictures and spoilers have already revealed that the new pals will be caught up in a car accident.

Corrie fans last saw the girls heading out for New Year’s Eve but on Monday night (January 3), as Faye drives a still tipsy Emma back from their New Year’s Eve party, they knock over Ted, an old man carrying his shopping.

The girls are relieved when he opens his eyes and states he is fine and invites them into his flat for a brew.

Emma is shaken when back on the street Imran spots Emma is worse for wear and says she shouldn’t be in charge of a learner whilst under the influence and if they had an accident she would be in trouble.

Emma and Faye decide to return to the flat to check up on Ted and apologise.

"Things really couldn’t get off to a much worse start than they do for Faye and Emma," Coronation Street's executive producer Iain MacLeod told the Manchester Evening News and other press.

"It’s not their fault [the accident] but it catapults them into a situation of impossible dilemmas, secrecy, and cover-ups," Iain adds

"It's a story of really of two really likable, decent young women suddenly finding themselves miles out of their depth with potentially really life-changing consequences."

But as things take a turn for the worse hand the pair decide to keep the accident a secret.

"Suddenly when things take a turn for the worse, they already realise there's a number of witnesses, like Imran, who can actually increase them," Iain adds.

"It's a really interesting story about you wake up in the morning and everything looks normal and by the time the sun goes down, your life is upside down and you're facing really serious legal ramifications, potentially."
