Coronation Street’s Emily Bishop returning for Ken Barlow’s birthday in October

Coronation Street ’s Emily Bishop is returning to the soap to celebrate Ken Barlow’s birthday in October.

The legendary character, played by Eileen Derbyshire, will make a cameo appearance in the ITV show more than three years since she was last seen onscreen in January 2916.

She will be seen making a video call to Ken during his 80th birthday bash in the autumn.

Corrie bosses announced the comeback on Twitter by sharing a picture of the magic moment.

They wrote: "This week we're filming Ken's 80th Birthday party and look who surprises him with a special video message - it's Emily!

Eileen had been a soap regular before her departure, playing Emily since 1961.

The character left as she travelled to Peru to reunite with her nephew Spider.

The soap's boss Iain MacLeod previously told The Sun Online he had been trying to woo Eileen back to the Cobbles.

In April, he said: "We're in talks fairly regularly with Eileen.

"At the moment there's no plans for her to return, but... the door's certainly not closed there."

Norris Cole is also returning to the ITV soap for Ken's birthday party and he's also seen in the picture posted on the show's Twitter page.

He was previously seen on the show back in May in actor Malcolm Hebden's first scenes since suffering a terrifying heart attack.
