Coronation Street's Eileen tipped to save Yasmeen after 'rumbling' Geoff's abuse

Coronation Street fans are hoping Eileen Grimshaw will help Yasmeen Nazir's case, after her arrest on Monday.

She was taken away by police after attacking her husband Geoff Metcalfe, with him now fighting for his life in hospital.

Yasmeen had hit him over the head with a glass bottle, before hitting him in the neck with the broken shards.

It comes after months of abuse and torment at the hands of a controlling Geoff, with him deliberately isolating her from loved ones.

From forcing her to stay inside and to do everything he asks, to more recently stealing her money and verbally tormenting her, events reached breaking point.

Last week her pals revealed they'd noticed a huge change in her behaviour since she married Geoff.

Her granddaughter Alya had been the only one to notice prior to this, with her working out the ordeal Yasmeen was facing.

With her out of the country, Yasmeen was all alone as Geoff kept her inside, burned her belongings and starved her.

Just last week, Eileen had noticed the pair rowing on the doorstep after an awkward clash in the pub.

But as she left the pair to it, she had no idea what was about to happen - with moments later, Yasmeen stabbing Geoff in self-defence.

On Monday, she appeared concerned for her and asked how she was as she was taken away from the house.

It was clear Eileen was on her side as she and Carla Connor spoke of those gossiping, and it being too late to be realising what was going on.

She also watched as Cathy and Brian spoke to the police, worried what they might be saying against her.

Prior to this, Eileen made it clear she'd seen Geoff antagonising Yasmeen and not the other way around, as many claimed she was the one initiating arguments.

But will it be enough to help Yasmeen, and can Eileen make the others see what was really happening?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
