Coronation Street's drunken David Platt mugged at knifepoint as he begins to self-destruct

David Platt struggles to cope in the wake of his wife Shona asking for a divorce and begins to self-destruct... resulting in him being mugged at knifepoint.

Next week on Coronation Street, Gail is horrified when she discovers that David has been seeing Alina and swiftly gives him a piece of her mind.

The hairdresser, played by Jack P Shepherd, doesn't take kindly to Gail's words and storms out.

He ends up drinking away his sorrows and staggers around the streets when two muggers suddenly grab him and drag him into an alley, pulling a knife on him.

Thankfully, David manages to push the muggers away and sprints off, getting away via a fire escape when the muggers give chase.

When he eventually returns home, David confesses to Gail and Nick about the attempted mugging.

Realising that he is going down a dark path, David realise that his impromptu romance with Alina isn't a good thing.

David meets up with Alina and apologises for using her to get over Shona and both of them agree that they need a fresh start.

Earlier this year, Shona (Julia Goulding) woke up from the coma she fell into after being shot during the horrific New Year gun seige.

Heartbreakingly, however she suffered brain damage as a result and cannot remember her own husband or the rest of the Platts.

However, Shona does recognise the son she stabbed last year after Clayton threatened to kill her - but she does not recall all the vile things he has done, including murder David's first wife.

In a dark bid for revenge, Clayton has been messing with his mum and twisting her perception of David so much so that she no longer wants to see her husband and wants a divorce.

Will Shona ever be able to recover her memories?
