Coronation Street's Colson Smith leaves soap to spend a month working on farm

Coronation Street favourite Colson Smith has taken a break from the legendary ITV soap.

The 22-year-old actor, who plays Craig Tinker on the cobbles is stepping away from the limelight for a short period of time to turn his hand to farming.

Colson has taken four weeks off to assist his sister Hannah, who is a vet, during lambing season on her farm.

Speaking on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, the actor opened up about the welcome lifestyle and career change.

“April is lambing season and I've got the call up - I'm in for lambing season,” he revealed.

"I'm off work for the whole of April, so I'm going to be there lambing. It's going to be great."

Lifting the lid on what he’s been up to on the farm, Colson admitted that it’s been a nice change, and he’s been enjoying it more than he initially thought he would.

"It's been full-on.

“I finished work and I got a call saying: 'You need to come and help out, we need some help on the farm.'

"I'm a top farmer. I can drive the tractor, I'm good at that kind of stuff.”

Colson went on to discuss his background, and revealed that he’s the black sheep of his family because he’s a ‘townie’ and his loved ones much prefer the wilderness of the countryside.

“My family has all been brought up in the countryside. They are all very outdoors-y, academic, smart people.

"And then there's me. I'm a bit of a townie, because I wanted to be an actor when everybody else wanted to live by the fat of the land sort of thing.”
