Coronation Street's Carla to 'completely unravel' in new psychosis storyline

This Morning’s soap queen Sharon Marshall has teased Coronation Street’s latest long-running storyline, that will see Carla Connor “completely unravel”.

Carla is blamed for the death of Rana Habeeb by those around her, following the factory roof collapse earlier this month.

Residents have found out she knew the roof was damaged, unaware that a mystery culprit climbed onto the roof and tampered with it further ahead of the collapse.

Carla will struggle with her mental health next week, as she remains guilty over what’s happened, and the character is headed for a breakdown.

Speaking about the ongoing storyline, Sharon revealed it would be airing for some time, with Carla set to suffer from psychosis.

She explained: “The truth came out at the memorial, she thinks she’s entirely to blame because she knew there was a problem with the roof and she didn’t get it fixed.

“We obviously know somebody went on the roof and damaged it, but what you’ll see is the whole community turn against her.

“Roy was shouting at her last night and he’s gonna throw her out, everyone is against her, and somebody starts sending her messages so it looks like messages coming from Rana from beyond the grave.”

Sharon continued: “It gets worse and worse, she starts to completely unravel. It’s paranoia and it’s going to go into a complete mental breakdown.

“It is going to go into psychosis where she starts imagining things. The soap worked with the charity Mind and have actually met with people who’ve been through it.

“I know the actress, Alison, sat down with a lady who has been through the same experience to keep it as real as possible.”

On how long the plot will play out for, she added: “It’s a long-running storyline, it’s not just gonna be dealt with in one episode.

“It’s gonna go on for quite a while, she’s gonna completely unravel.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
