Coronation Street's big plans to recreate iconic Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin feud

Coronation Street bosses have shared plans to recreate the iconic long-lasting feud between Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin.

The storyline lasted for more than 20 years and brought many tense yet comical moments to the ITV soap.

Now the writers want to create something similar with characters David Platt and Daniel Osbourne.

David (Jack P Shepherd) and Daniel (Rob Mallard) have been at each other's throats in an ongoing argument after David’s adopted teen, Max, accused Ken’s son and schoolteacher Daniel of having a fling with his pupil Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby).

The feud is dragging in other family members too, as Tracy Barlow, never one to keep her thoughts to herself, said: " That Platt lad is off his rocker, like the rest of his flaming family!"

Speaking about taking the feud to the next level, executive producer Iain Macleod said: “I was struck with Daniel and David in many scenes – I asked if they’d had many scenes and Jack quipped that he maybe passed him a beer mat.

"Having these two actors in really big angry and emotional scenes – both quite witty, it’s just dynamite."

He added: "The moment I saw them going at it, I just knew. Why didn’t we do this before?! I don’t want to jinx it by saying it’s like Ken and Mike but it has the potential to go on a long time. I hope it works."
