The character, who is played by Jane Hazelgrove, will starting scamming those that live near her in Weatherfield, roping in vicar Billy Mayhem in the process.

The ITV soap will show Bernie using the unsuspected vicar to gain access to other people's houses before looking to steal their money.

A source has told The Sun that Bernie will be "on the lookout for easy cash," and she identified Billy as the person to help her achieve this as he is an "easy target."

The shock storyline will she Bernie convincing Billy to "give her a job as a cleaner at his church," and the source says that "it doesn't take long for her to take advantage."

This new role gives Bernie the opportunity to take a sneaky peak at when Billy's parishioners "will be in community groups or meetings."

This means that once Bernie is armed with this information, she will then "plan to burgle their houses while they are at church and could leave a crime wave in her wake."

The character has divided viewers with some enjoying her antics while others have been disgusted with her behaviour.

Since arriving on the cobbles, she has been seen gathering her daughter Gemma's wee so that she could sell positive pregnancy tests on the dark web.

There is also a huge storyline brewing involving Bernie's partner Kal, who groomed her son Paul when he was a teenager and she didn't know the abuse was taking place.
