Coronation Street's Alexandra Mardell takes Aldi job a year after quitting ITV soap

Former soap star Alexandra Mardell has taken a job with supermarket Aldi after quitting Coronation Street last year.

The 29-year-old actress is best known for playing bubbly pink-loving hairdresser Emma Brooker for more than three years.

Alexandra arrived on the cobbles as an apprentice at Audrey Roberts' hair salon and had a brief dalliance with her boss' son David.

The actress had been a huge hit with fans and won the British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 2019, and was nominated for Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards in the same year.

However, after three years on the soap, Alexandra announced in 2022 that she was walking away as it felt like 'the right time' to pursue other opportunities.

Alexandra has now revealed she is working with supermarket Aldi on their new ad campaign.

Posting a video on her Instagram page, Alexandra joked: "I am… Sausage Casserole!

"Never felt so connected to a role!," she teased.

After sharing her latest job role, Alexandra was inundated with comments from her former ITV co-stars.

Sally Ann Matthews said: "Oh my God. That’s totally being assigned as your ring tone. Love it! x"

Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Habeeb, said: "Absolute banger".

While Maddy Smedley from The Traitors joked 'Who's behind that mask,' in a nod to ITV's reality series The Masked Singer.

The announcement comes after Alexandra appeared on the latest Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special - which she won alongside partner Kai Widdrington.

In the festive special, which aired on Christmas Day, Alexandra performed a quickstep to Sleigh Ride by the Ronettes while dressed as a reindeer while pro dancer Kai transformed into Santa Claus.

After charming the judges and the voting audience, Alexandra and Kai were crowned the winners - beating off stiff competition from the likes of Nicola Roberts and Rosie Ramsey.

"I am so shocked, I cannot thank you enough. I'm so happy about that, I did that for you [Kai] as well, I can't believe it,' said Alexandra.

Former Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli also surprised viewers by making a surprise return to the show where he performed Don’t Leave Me This Way by The Communards.
