Coronation Street responds to call from Snoop Dogg to join soap and suggests role for the megastar rapper

Coronation Street has been flooded with "make it happen" messages after rap megastar Snoop Dogg said he fancies starring in the ITV soap. The Drop It Like It's Hot rapper, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, has revealed his love for Corrie and would be willing to swap Long Beach, California for the Weatherfield cobbles.

After telling The Sun that he would be up for having for a role in the world's longest-running soap, filmed in Trafford, Corrie has welcomed the idea of him gracing the street. And bosses have even suggested a role for him.

"He could serve hotpots in the Rovers, but he might drop it like it's hot..." Corrie tweeted from the official soap account. Snoop, 51, told The Sun at the launch of his new partnership with crypto casino Roobet: “Coronation Street, I love it. If they call me I’ll do it. I’ll play whenever they need."

And he added: "I love the cinematography, acting, the storylines and just the reality. I’d like to be part of it because they’ve been part of my culture.” Snoop has also said he wants to perform at the King's coronation on May 6, saying: "I’m down to perform at the coronation. Make it happen.”

@seanpaune urged the soap: "Make This Happen."@jennyluv__replied to Corrie's tweet: "Like what you did there. Please make it happen." @KittyKat_TT pleaded: "C'mon Corrie, make it happen!" And @lorrain76846804 commented: "This would be amazing."

@OffBrandHeels suggested as a storyline: "He hears about Chesney's burgers on social media and just has to try one." And @CavoloChe said: "You could have Snoop Dog turn up and just about order a pint and then cut to the credits, like you did with Michael Crawford all those years ago, save you paying him a extras fee with lines." And @marnie661 said: "He’s got to appear at Gemini’s wedding."

Snoop reportedly told fans during a visit to Manchester, ahead of a concert at the Apollo in 2010, the year of the soap's 50th anniversary, that he had asked his agent to negotiate him a role. But at the time a spokeswoman said it was hard to see how Snoop would fit into Weatherfield.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I had my agent reach out to them to try and get me in on it and they said they were interested so hopefully I will. It would be perfect to be on it this year – with their 50th anniversary. I would do whatever they like, I’m an actor, I could do it."

He told how friends got him hooked on Corrie 11 years earlier. He said: "Some of my friends turned me on to it [Corrie], and I just loved it. I like different, I don’t just like the normal.

"I’m kind of out of character sometimes in the things that I like. I loved the whole scheme of it. I thought ‘this is my world, this is something I could fall into.' People wouldn’t expect it, but it wouldn’t be too far fetched if I just fell into it."

It was revealed that Snoop's dream part on the cobbles would be playing a love interest to the late Deirdre Barlow. And he was ready for a backlash from her husband Ken who he described as a “gangster."

Princess Anne recently paid the street a visit ahead of the highly-praised acid attack storyline. Other famous visitors include rap superstar Will.i.Am who filmed the video for his song Fiyah in the Rovers Return in 2017 and famous cameos include Peter Kay, Cliff Richard, Cheryl, Joan Collins and Prince Charles.
