Coronation Street pub Rovers Return given modern makeover by Bolton designer - and it's proper fancy

It's fair to say the Rovers Return Inn is as iconic as Coronation Street itself.

It has seen its fair share of drama over the 60 years the ITV soap has been on screen - as the second home to many a Weatherfield resident.

There have been brilliant landladies at the helm of the iconic boozer, starting with the legendary Annie Walker to the current owner Jenny Connor.

From fights breaking out to gun dramas; drunken passes, proposals and labours - the walls of the Rovers have seen it all.

The pub is as traditional as it comes, but what would Corrie's most iconic building look like if it launched in Manchester today?

Scene, a new interior design agency, has just done that - and it's fancy.

The firm, founded by 25-year-old Bolton-born designer Courteney Kiely, focuses on luxury commercial and residential projects.

To mark the launch, the firm has done a virtual makeover of the region’s best-known boozer to show how it could look with a 1920s art-deco inspired glow-up.

Courteney, founder and creative director of Scene, said: "The Rovers Return has been a firm favourite with the residents of Coronation Street for decades.

"And yet the pub’s décor has barely changed since if first hit our screens back in 1960. We thought we’d have some fun imagining what it could look like with a Scene makeover.

"The art-décor styling may be something you’re more likely to see in a luxury London hotel lounge, but we felt Britain’s best-loved boozer deserved some roaring twenties glamour.

"The colour palette of dark greens and inky blacks, feature mirrors, marble, soft lighting and decorative gold trims all help to create a decadent yet relaxing atmosphere.

"We’ve also retained some of its original features as a nod to its past, hence the sociable bar area and cosy booth seating. We’re not sure what the locals would make of it but it’s been a fun project."

Speaking about the business, Courteney added: "We launched Scene to shift the boundaries of conventional interior design – to create spaces that are bold and original. Design can truly transform a space and people’s experience of it.

"That’s what we’re here to do for our clients."
