Coronation Street producers cast ex Emmerdale actor Paul Opacic as latest villain

Coronation Street is set to welcome a new villain after TV producers confirmed that actor Paul Opacic would be joining the ITV cast.

The former Emmerdale actor, 55, who played Steve Marchant on the show until 1999, is set to assume the role of Corey Brent's entrepreneur dad, Stefan.

According to The Sun, Paul has already begun filming the scenes and his character is set to cause some serious trouble when he appears on the show later this month.

It comes as Corrie character Corey left viewers shocked after he rekindled things with Asha (Tanisha Gorey) following her split with Nina (Mollie Gallagher).

"Stefan is going to cause chaos on the cobbles this year and give Dev major headaches," an insider told The Sun.

"If viewers think Corey is bad, wait to see what kind of monster created him."

In the upcoming episodes, it appears that Paul's character will cause quite a stir when he challenges Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) while Asha moves in with Corey.

As an actor, Paul is probably most well known for the six-year stint he did on Emmerdale but he also boasts an impressive career across several well-known TV shows.

After his appearance on Emmerdale, Paul went on to star in Doctors, Holby City and The Bill, just to name a few. He also played another villainous role when he was cast as Carl Costello in Hollyoaks between 2010 and 2018.

News of Paul's casting comes shortly after ITV confirmed that the popular show would have an hour-long bumper episode on Tuesday to make up for the episode that was axed following Prince Philip's death.

On Friday, Corrie and Emmerdale fans were left devastated after ITV dedicated the evening to a news special about the late Prince instead of the soaps. At the time, many viewers also expressed their frustration about the decision to change the evening's scheduling across all major channels.

Corrie and Emmerdale returned to TV screens this evening, and television bosses have also revealed that there will be an hour-long episode tomorrow evening so that fans can catch up.
