Coronation Street New Year spoilers tease Shona's fate as she clings to life in coma

Coronation Street has confirmed New Year turmoil for David Platt and his family, as his wife Shona Ramsey remains on a life support machine after the shooting.

Shona was one of several Weatherfield residents injured during the Christmas Day siege, after she was shot.

While she initially seemed fine, the character suffered a cardiac arrest during an operation after losing a lot of blood.

Shona was connected to a life support machine after her body struggled to cope with her injuries, with her brain being starved of oxygen for a short time.

Attempts to remove her breathing tube left her in danger, before she was reconnected to the breathing apparatus - unable to breathe on her own.

Fears for Shona are increasing, with new spoilers for January 2020 confirming she remains in a coma in two weeks time.

David clearly isn't coping with his wife's fight for life, with him losing his first wife Kylie Platt in a stabbing back in 2016.

It appears he's not allowing family and friends to visit the character, amid the doctors' decision to attempt to remove the tube once more.

It's feared if she can't to breathe, she may die and may have suffered brain damage.

Not wanting to lose her, David refuses to let them remove the equipment.

His brother Nick Tilsley encourages him to let others visit Shona in case she doesn't pull through, after he was told this week she may never regain conciousness.

Meanwhile, Billy, Eileen, Roy, Audrey, Sarah and Gail all visit the café worker as David finally agrees for doctors to remove her tube.

But will she pull through, or will David face fresh heartache?

Later on in the week, David is assured by Aggie that the doctors are doing all they can for his wife and she tells him not to give up on her.

With Shona actress Julia Goulding set to leave the soap for her maternity leave, after welcoming her baby son in November, will her character die?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
