Coronation Street Millie Gibson's exit date confirmed as show announce epic stunt

Coronation Street bosses have confirmed Millie GIbson's show exit will be marked with an epic stunt.

The soap star joined the cast of the Cobbles as Kelly Neelan 2019 and has become one of the show's most important characters. Kelly played a significant role in one of the show's most dramatic storylines when she was wrongly imprisoned for the death of Seb Franklin.

However, her turbulent time on the Cobbles will soon come to an end after the 18-year-old confirmed she is set to exit the show. She said: "Now that the news is out about me exiting the cobbles, I just want to say I've had the most incredible 4 years.

"Growing up here, I've made long-lasting friendships, learnt so much and I am forever grateful for my time and the storylines I have been given. I'm really looking forward to you guys seeing the future episodes coming up and I can't thank @coronationstreet enough for letting me be a small piece in this beautiful family. Kelly Neelan will be a part of my heart always.

"Thank you to you all for being so supportive [heart emoji]." The soap’s producer Iain MacLeod has revealed Millie's exit will air as part of a Super September week, which which is usually saved for ITV’s ‘Super Soap Week’ in October - as M.E.N reports.

He said: "It leaves me with a heavy heart to say Kelly’s leaving the show and we thought the fact that Millie is going and therefore Kelly’s going allows us to go really big and do something incredibly high stakes."

Corrie has gone all out for the scenes, heading out to RecodeXR Studio to film with special equipment used for blockbuster films like Avengers and Disney+ series The Mandalorian. And Iain believes they are the first soap opera to use the incredible technology.

Speaking about what they’ve used and what it achieves, Iain said: “It’s called a volume wall. Essentially it’s like a very new version of a green screen and it means you can put your actors anywhere you can imagine. You can design a 3D world like the surface of mars and stick Ken and Rita up there having a sticky bun and a cup of tea if you wish.”

It was previously teased Kelly could finally uncover the truth about killer Gary Windass, and the fact he allowed her dying mother Laura Neelan to take the blame for killing her dad, Rick. Iain has revealed the pair will enter into a ‘Corriewood’ showdown and will face-off in the epic stunt.

He said: "We’ve created an incredible rooftop sequence with a twinkling cityscape behind it so that we can do things we’d never usually do on a location shoot."
