Coronation Street literally 'taking the pee' with shocking new storyline

And we thought Gemma Winter was trouble, but then along came her mum.

Coronation Street 's Bernie Winter literally starts 'taking the pee' when she has a light bulb moment over how she can use her daughter's pregnancy for her own gain.

Bernie, played by Jane Hazlegrove, tampers with the toilet so that Gemma has to go in a bucket, and then uses the wee to produce a stack of positive pregnancy tests to sell on the black market.

Scheming Bernie is flogging the tests on the internet to people wanting to fool their partner into thinking they're expecting.

"I nobbled the toilet so she had to go in a bucket and then I dip," Bernie explains to neighbour Michael Bailey.

"Trick your loved one's into thinking you're up the duff," he says, reading the description of the product.

"It's illegal and it's flippin' rank," he protests.

"Best we never mention or think about this ever again."

Gemma introduces Michael to Bernie, explaining that he’s come to fix the loo.

And after ushering Gemma off to work, Bernie admits she blocked the loo on purpose.

Michael advises Bernie that if she wants to make serious money she should buy the pregnancy kits in bulk and sell them on a legitimate site.

And, despite his initial protests, he agrees to go into business with her for 25 per cent of the profits.

In June there was a shock for Gemma and her partner Chesney Brown when it turned out that they were expecting not just one but four babies.

In a first for the long-running soap Gemma, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, was told she was having quadruplets, and Chesney fainted at the news.

Last month her mum turned up in Weatherfield and immediately ruffled feathers when she tried to seduce Chesney after he gave her a place to stay.

He and Gemma had previously decided they were incompatible living together, but her mum's dodgy behaviour brought her back to 5 Coronation Street to keep an eye on her.
