Coronation Street kicks off 2022 with shock death in dramatic New Year scenes

Coronation Street is set to kick off the New Year with a shocking death as 2022 gets off to a grisly start in Weatherfield.

It's been revealed that Emma Brooker and Faye Windass will accidentally kill a man in dramatic scenes this week.

Corrie boss Iain Macleod has teased some epic storylines for the ITV soap this year, and it seems there's no time to waste.

Iain revealed: "In terms to start the new year where we mean to go on, it takes a much worse turn for Emma and Faye.

"There is a cataclysmic event that’s not their fault but it’s a dilemma of secrecy and cover ups.

"Two likeable women are out of their depths and the consequences are life changing."

Iain continued: "The scripts are exciting and complicated – and funny as Emma is hapless.

"It’s quirky but at the bottom of it, it will trigger a seismic event of their lives."

"Emma shouldn’t be teaching Faye to drive. When you watch it happen, what you will feel that the decisions they make, when they add them up, it turns into a total nightmare.

"There are witnesses who can incriminate them which is a nightmare when it goes worse," he added.

"I love stories that crash land out of thin air – sometimes they take years to manifest.

"The characters in the middle, Emma and Faye are in the beginnings of a close friendship, it’s a story about cementing and challenging that friendship."

And in stark contrast to friendship, Corrie bosses are hoping to recreate the epic feud between Mike Baldwin and Ken Barlow - but this time with David Platt and Daniel Osbourne.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
