Coronation Street in hot water as fans baffled by tonight's episode

Coronation Street fans were left confused after the dramatic start to tonight's double header.

Monday's edition of the long-running soap started in spectacular style as Shona woke up David Platt in the middle of the night worried she had been involved in a hit-and-run accident.

The married couple went to investigate and were relieved to discover there was no evidence she had hit someone.

However, they later heard from Sarah Platt that the ITV show's resident villain Todd Grimshaw had been hit by a car and is now in the hospital.

Shona and David had already reached out to mechanic Abi to ask her to fix the car - telling her the dint in the car was from hitting a bin.

But once the Sally Carman played character had found out Todd was the victim of a hit-and-run she confronts the Platts to accuse them of committing the crime and trying to hide the evidence.

And it seems as though the intense developments in tonight's episode left some Coronation Street fans baffled by what was going on.

Fans of the show took to Twitter questioning whether they had missed something.

One user said: "Did they show an episode over the weekend that we all missed?"

Another tweeted: "Feel like I missed an episode"

A third said: "Did it start with an off-screen hit and run? Did I miss something?"

A fourth commented: "Either I have missed an episode or the 730 and 830 episodes have been swapped??"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV and ITVHub.
