Coronation Street in chaos as SIX more stars plan to quit over hours and pay

Six more Coronation Street stars are expected to quit in the midst of a cast exodus.

The ITV soap has already had seven actors announce they were leaving over recent weeks – and insiders say morale backstage is at an all-time low.

Sources today reveal how more could be set to walk as bosses hold urgent talks about the show’s future.

It is claimed that an atmosphere of frustration comes from challenging working hours, pay disparity and a ban on boosting earnings through social media endorsements.

Corrie sources are keen to put the cast changes down to a natural turnover, but one told how more could quit because of widespread discontent.

“I know of another half dozen actors who are considering their positions,” said the insider.

“The bosses have had a series of meetings to discuss the situation, but don’t seem to have come up with any concrete plans. They've got this old-school mindset of ‘no one is bigger than Corrie’.”

Recent quitters include Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, Faye Brookes (Kate Connor), Tristan Gemmill (Robert Preston) and Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker).

Bhavna Limbachia (Rana Habeeb) has already gone and also breaking ties with the show are Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) and Underworld machinist Gina Seddon (Connie Hyde).

Criticism has been directed towards producer Iain McLeod – with some accusing him of “losing the dressing room”.

Meanwhile, younger members of the cast, who are reportedly on a lot less money than stalwarts such as Bill Roache, are unhappy they can’t seek money-making opportunities elsewhere.

One source said: “The whole cast are miserable. They believe bosses are being hypocritical by forcing them to endorse sponsors like Costa and Co-Op on set but not allowing them to endorse anything on personal social media. They find the product placements embarrassing.”

It all comes as Corrie legend Beverly Callard, 62, who has played Liz McDonald for 30 years, says the soap isn’t what it used to be thanks to 12-hour days. She says it used to be more fun when they had time to socialise.

A Corrie source played down reports of a crisis, insisting: “It’s business as usual at Corrie. Cast come and go – it’s the nature of soaps.”
