Coronation Street hit with Ofcom complaints after controversial Evelyn scene

Coronation Street came under fire from hundreds of viewers over a scene involving Evelyn Plummer.

The long-running soap is still dealing with the fallout from the deadly fire started by Evelyn's great-granddaughter Hope - which led to Alina Pop suffering a miscarriage.

The Maureen Lipman character told Tyrone that his 11-year-old daughter should seek "professional help" - which prompted Coronation Street viewers to lodge complaints to Ofcom - as Birmingham Live report.

Evelyn said Hope should go to "play therapy" on an episode of the popular ITV show that aired on August 16.

Viewers took issue with the suggestion that an 11-year-old needed to be given therapy.

The broadcasting watchdog Ofcom received 275 complaints from Coronation Street fans.

It's not the first time Coronation Street has received complaints.

The soap received around 100 complaints after a storyline that saw Seb die following a brutal attack.

Seb was killed by Corey and his group of thugs for being a goth, with Nina left severely beaten and in hospital.

It was revealed this week that Seb is set to return to the cobbles as Nina starts to remember exactly what happened on the night of the attack.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV and ITVHub
