Coronation Street viewers watched in horror tonight as Geoff Metcalfe forced shaking Yasmeen Nazir to eat crab shell from the bin.
Twisted Geoff was irrationally furious with his new wife for serving Cathy Matthews a canape with a piece of crab shell inside.
Some Corrie fans struggled to watch the uncomfortable scenes and fear the ITV soap has finally 'gone too far'.
The newly married couple were celebrating with their family and neighbours at a wedding party - and Geoff showered Yasmeen with compliments about her intelligence and beauty.
But he grew increasingly angry after Sally spotted a lipstick stain on her glass and Cathy picked out a bit of shell after biting into her crab canape.
Geoff managed to conceal his mounting irritation but as soon as the guests had left he flipped out at his wife.
The nasty pensioner tore a strip off confused Yasmeen as he accused her of embarrassing him in front of Cathy, Brian, Tim, Sally, Kevin and Abi.
He sarcastically asked: "The fact Cathy nearly choked to death on a piece. I suppose that's not your fault either?"
Yasmeen insisted she had not done it on purpose and it was "no big deal", but Geoff had no time for her excuses.
Geoff picked out the crab shell from the bin and demanded that trembling Yasmeen eat it.
Yasmeen was shaking in fear as her forceful husband said: "You said it yourself. It's no big deal. Eat it."
When terrified Yasmeen refused, Geoff menacingly replied: "Next time...be more careful."
Taking to Twitter , one viewer said: "I find Geoff almost impossible to watch. Very very clever writing"
"Don’t usually swear but I f***ing hate Geoff!!! Hope he has a slow very painful death very soon," added another.
A third said: "Can't stand to watch these scenes with Geoff and Yasmeen"
"So this is when the idiotic controlling Geoff makes Yasmin eat crab shells from the bin. Really don’t like this storyline," said a fourth.
Some Corrie fans have been unable to watch Geoff abusing Yasmeen - with a few claiming they fast-forward through the scenes.
The ITV soap has worked with charities to craft the coercive control storyline.
Teresa Parker, of Women’s Aid, said: "Many people think that unless there is physical abuse, it doesn’t count. Coercive control underpins almost all abusive relationships, and Geoff has established himself at the centre of Yasmeen’s life, and manipulated her.
"Gradually we are seeing the long-term effects of living with an abusive partner."
